Esha Deol Confirms She Is Joining ‘Malamaal Weekly 2’
Twenty years after Malamaal Weekly introduced audiences to a chaotic battle over sudden wealth, its sequel is gathering one of the more expansive comedy ensembles currently taking shape in Hindi cinema.
Esha Deol has confirmed that she has signed Malamaal Weekly 2, saying the film arrived at a time when she specifically wanted to return to an out-and-out comedy.
Her addition follows weeks of reports connecting a growing list of actors to the project, including Paresh Rawal, Riteish Deshmukh, Rajpal Yadav, Raveena Tandon, Parineeti Chopra, Shilpa Shirodkar, Fardeen Khan, Mahesh Manjrekar and Elvish Yadav.
Soniya Bansal, known to television audiences through Bigg Boss 17, is also reported to have joined the cast.
The sequel is being directed by Amit Joshi, who co-directed the 2024 romantic comedy Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya.
Esha Deol: ‘This Is Exactly What I Needed’
Unlike some of the casting information surrounding the film, Esha's involvement is no longer merely an industry report.
The actress has personally confirmed the project.
“This is exactly what I needed – something fun, light-hearted and full of laughter,” Esha told Bollywood Hungama while discussing her decision to sign the sequel.
She explained that after working on two considerably different projects—the horror-comedy Ghungat and Telugu film SYG: Sambarala Yeti Gattu—she wanted to make a complete comic caper.
