The countdown to Mirzapur: The Movie has entered its final stage, with advance bookings opening ahead of the film’s theatrical release on September 4, 2026.

The film takes the Mirzapur franchise from streaming to cinemas for the first time, bringing several familiar characters back to the screen, including Pankaj Tripathi as Kaleen Bhaiya, Ali Fazal as Guddu Pandit and Divyenndu as Munna Tripathi.

Advance-booking listings also show a wide variation in ticket prices across cities and theatres, with premium tickets at some venues reaching ₹1,800.

Advance Booking Opens Ahead of September 4 Release

Advance bookings for Mirzapur: The Movie opened on August 31, giving audiences an early opportunity to secure seats before the film reaches cinemas on Friday, September 4.

Ticket prices vary significantly depending on the city, cinema, show timing and seating category. Reports based on booking-platform listings showed tickets ranging from around ₹149 to ₹1,800 across major markets.

The higher end of that range was visible in Noida. A night-show ticket at DLF Mall of India was listed at ₹1,800, while some other premium screenings in the city were also priced above ₹1,000.

These figures reflect specific listings rather than a uniform nationwide ticket price.

Mirzapur Makes Its First Move From Streaming to Cinemas

The theatrical release represents an important experiment for the Mirzapur franchise.

The crime drama established its audience through streaming, beginning with the first season in 2018. Instead of restricting the franchise to another streaming instalment, Mirzapur: The Movie is designed as a theatrical expansion of its fictional world.

The film is scheduled to release in Hindi and Telugu.

Its move to theatres will therefore test whether the franchise's substantial digital following can translate into audiences willing to purchase cinema tickets — an increasingly important question as successful streaming properties look for opportunities beyond OTT platforms.

Pankaj Tripathi, Ali Fazal and Divyenndu Return

Several actors closely associated with the Mirzapur universe are returning for the film.

Pankaj Tripathi reprises his role as Akhandanand “Kaleen Bhaiya” Tripathi, while Ali Fazal returns as Guddu Pandit and Divyenndu is back as Munna Tripathi.

The wider cast includes Abhishek Banerjee, Ravi Kishan, Jitendra Kumar, Rasika Dugal, Shriya Pilgaonkar, Shweta Tripathi, Harshita Gaur and Sonal Chauhan, among others.

The return of characters from different points in the franchise's history gives the movie an opportunity to draw on the familiarity audiences already have with the Mirzapur universe.

Film Receives ‘A’ Certificate, Runtime Crosses Three Hours

Ahead of its theatrical debut, Mirzapur: The Movie received an ‘A’ certificate from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC).

The certification was issued on August 29.

The film has a certified runtime of approximately 197.19 minutes, or around 3 hours and 17 minutes, making it an unusually long theatrical release.

The extended runtime suggests that the filmmakers are attempting to retain some of the expansive storytelling associated with the episodic format while adapting the franchise for cinemas.

What Is Mirzapur: The Movie About?

The central conflict remains rooted in the violent struggle for control of Mirzapur.

According to the official description of the film, the story expands the battle for power as old enemies return, new threats emerge and rival contenders fight for control of the city's criminal underworld.

That means the film is not simply using the Mirzapur name for a separate crime story. Instead, it draws directly from the characters, rivalries and power structures that established the franchise.

Ali Fazal Offers Fans a Shortcut Before Watching the Film

Viewers who have not recently revisited the entire series may not necessarily need to watch all three seasons before heading to cinemas.

During a promotional appearance, Ali Fazal indicated that viewers should revisit the first six episodes of Season 1, saying the movie's storyline begins from that point in the franchise's narrative.

That detail could make the theatrical release more accessible to viewers who remember the franchise but do not want to rewatch every season before September 4.

Box-Office Expectations Rise — But Estimates Remain Unconfirmed

The start of advance booking has also turned attention toward the film's potential opening-day performance.

Trade website Sacnilk has projected that Mirzapur: The Movie could record an India net opening of approximately ₹15–20 crore, with the possibility of moving above ₹20 crore if advance-booking momentum and audience demand remain strong.

However, these numbers are trade projections, not confirmed box-office earnings.

Actual opening-day collections will depend on factors including final advance sales, theatre occupancy, walk-in audiences, number of shows, ticket pricing and audience response after the first screenings.

Why the Film's Box Office Matters Beyond Mirzapur

The performance of Mirzapur: The Movie could carry significance beyond a single franchise.

Streaming platforms have created several Indian shows with highly recognisable characters and large digital audiences. Yet popularity on streaming does not automatically guarantee theatrical demand, where viewers must make a separate ticket-purchasing decision.

If Mirzapur: The Movie converts a meaningful portion of its existing fan base into cinema audiences, it could strengthen the case for other established streaming franchises to explore theatrical films, spin-offs or crossover releases.

A weaker conversion, on the other hand, would underline the difference between digital popularity and box-office appeal.

That makes the September 4 opening an interesting test not only for Mirzapur, but also for the broader relationship between India's streaming and theatrical entertainment businesses.

When Is Mirzapur: The Movie Releasing?

Mirzapur: The Movie is scheduled to release theatrically on September 4, 2026, in Hindi and Telugu.

The film is directed by Gurmmeet Singh and written by Puneet Krishna. Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar are producers, with Kassim Jagmagia and Vishal Ramchandani serving as co-producers.

With advance booking now underway, attention will shift to ticket sales over the final days before release and whether the franchise's streaming popularity can translate into a strong theatrical opening.
