Ireland scripted history by defeating reigning T20 World Cup champions India by 34 runs in the opening T20I at Stormont, Belfast. It was Ireland's first-ever victory over India in international cricket, ending a long winless run against the cricketing powerhouse.
After recovering from 68/4, Ireland posted a competitive 182/9, thanks to captain Lorcan Tucker's half-century and Gareth Delany's aggressive 49. India's bowlers had dominated the early overs but failed to contain the hosts in the closing stages.
Chasing 183, India's batting lineup collapsed under pressure despite a blistering 50 off 20 balls by Abhishek Sharma. Ireland's inexperienced bowling attack, featuring impressive debutants, dismantled the visitors for 148, securing one of the greatest wins in Irish cricket history. The defeat also marked a disappointing start to Shreyas Iyer's tenure as India's T20I captain.
