Blacksmith Raises $45 Million as AI Reshapes Software Development
Blacksmith, a US-based startup building infrastructure to help developers test and validate software code, has secured $45 million in a Series B funding round led by Peak XV Partners.
The investment comes as artificial intelligence rapidly changes how software is created. AI coding assistants and autonomous coding agents can generate code at much greater speed, but that acceleration also puts pressure on the systems developers use to test, review and validate changes before deploying them.
Blacksmith is positioning its platform around this emerging bottleneck.
The latest round values the company at approximately $550 million. Existing backers GV and Y Combinator participated alongside Peak XV, while the financing takes Blacksmith's total capital raised to roughly $58.5 million.
From Code Generation to Code Validation
The rapid expansion of generative AI has changed the economics of software development. Producing code is becoming quicker, but every new change still needs to be compiled, tested and checked before it can safely reach production.
That means faster code generation can actually increase pressure on continuous integration and testing infrastructure.
