Zoho is making a broader push into artificial intelligence and specialised enterprise software with the launch of Zia Chat, a unified conversational AI interface, alongside seven industry-focused software offerings.

Announced on September 23, 2026, Zia Chat is designed to give employees a single place to search company information, understand business context and perform tasks across multiple applications instead of repeatedly navigating separate software interfaces. At the same time, Zoho is moving deeper into vertical SaaS, targeting retail, automotive, banking and financial services, healthcare, education, real estate and restaurants.

The announcements reflect a larger shift in enterprise technology: AI is increasingly becoming not just a feature inside individual applications, but an interface through which employees interact with business data, workflows and software.

What Is Zoho Zia Chat?

Zia Chat is built natively into Zoho's business ecosystem and is intended to act as a conversational layer across applications.

Rather than requiring employees to separately navigate CRM, finance, HR, support and other systems, Zoho says users can interact with Zia Chat in natural language to retrieve information and carry out work.

The system can summarise records and conversations, analyse business information, generate reports, charts, spreadsheets and presentations, draft emails, assign tasks and schedule recurring reports.

Zoho co-founder and chief scientist Sridhar Vembu described the problem the company is trying to address as an “interface crisis.”

“Every day, employees waste their time navigating menus, hunting for dropdowns and fighting with fragmented software interfaces.”

Vembu said Zoho's approach is to remove some of that interface complexity by giving employees a common AI-driven interaction layer across their business software.

Zia Chat Is Designed to Understand Business Context

Zoho argues that giving employees a conversational interface solves only part of the problem.

Business information is often fragmented across CRM systems, email, support software, finance platforms, HR applications and other databases. That fragmentation can also limit how much context an AI system has when responding to a request.

Zia Chat is designed to bring information, workflows and business rules together so that the AI can work with a broader understanding of an organisation's operations.

That distinction could become important as businesses move from using generative AI mainly to produce text toward using AI agents to perform actual workplace tasks.

Users Can Work With Zia Agents and Profiles

Zoho is also building agent-based capabilities into the platform.

Users will be able to switch between role-based “Profiles”, while more complex, multi-step work can be delegated to Zia Agents.

For example, rather than simply asking AI to summarise information, enterprise AI systems increasingly aim to retrieve relevant records, analyse them and then initiate authorised actions.

Zoho says Zia Chat respects the organisation's existing permissions and approval processes, meaning an employee should only be able to access information and perform actions for which they already have authorisation.

Zoho Takes a Model-Agnostic Approach

Another notable element of Zia Chat is that Zoho is not restricting businesses to a single underlying AI model.

The system is model-agnostic, allowing organisations to select the large language models they want to use. It can also connect to external business systems through Model Context Protocol (MCP) integrations.

This gives Zoho's strategy two layers: the underlying AI model can vary, while Zoho supplies the business applications, organisational context, permissions and workflow infrastructure around it.

Vembu said Zoho expects the underlying intelligence supplied by AI models to become increasingly commoditised as large models become cheaper to operate and smaller models become more capable.

“Our goal is to commoditise intelligence so customers can get work done, without incurring high costs on tokens,” Vembu said.

Privacy and Enterprise Controls Form Part of the Pitch

For companies, deploying AI across internal systems creates questions about access to confidential data and what happens to information retrieved by an AI assistant.

Zoho says Zia Chat operates within existing enterprise permissions and approval workflows. Users can also review and confirm actions before execution, and responses can be linked back to the underlying business records used to produce them.

The company further says information accessed through Zia Chat will not be used to train Zoho's AI models. That is Zoho's stated data-handling policy for the product.

When Will Zia Chat Be Available?

Zia Chat is expected to become available in early access in about a month, initially in English.

The initial release will operate under a bring-your-own-key model, while Zoho plans to add more languages over time.

Zoho is also not planning to charge separately for Zia Chat initially. Vembu told Mint that the longer-term goal is to incorporate AI into the company's broader software pricing as inference costs decline.

Zoho Enters Vertical SaaS With Seven Industry Offerings

Alongside Zia Chat, Zoho announced a significant expansion into vertical SaaS.

Traditional horizontal SaaS products—such as CRM, accounting or collaboration software—are generally designed to serve many industries. Vertical SaaS instead incorporates the specialised workflows, terminology and regulatory requirements of a particular industry.

Zoho says its new approach combines its existing broad business-software portfolio with applications built specifically around individual industries.

The initial seven sectors are:

  1. Retail — Zoho RetailIQ: A retail-specific CRM designed to manage customer profiles, buying behaviour, loyalty programmes, campaigns and feedback while integrating with systems such as Zoho POS, ERP and Desk. It is available in India.

  2. Automotive — Zoho AutoDMS: A dealer-management platform connecting sales, servicing, spare parts, warranties and dealer operations. Zoho says AutoDMS is available globally.

  3. BFSI — Zoho LOS: A loan-origination platform aimed at banks, NBFCs and other financial institutions. It covers the lending process from application and verification through approval and disbursement and is available in India.

  4. Healthcare — MedScribe: An AI-native clinical documentation system that converts clinician conversations into structured clinical records. Zoho says MedScribe is compliant with India's Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission framework and is in early access in India.

  5. Education — Zoho Campus: A platform for schools, colleges and universities that brings admissions, fee collection, attendance, timetables, assignments and staff records together. It is available in India.

  6. Real Estate — Zoho for Real Estate: Software designed around property-sales workflows, including lead capture, buyer-property matching, site visits, follow-ups and deal closure. Zoho says the offering is available in India and the US.

  7. Restaurants — Zoho POS for Restaurants: A cloud-based restaurant platform covering omnichannel orders, dine-in and table service, menus, kitchen operations, inventory, recipes, self-service ordering and catering. Zoho says it will be free for restaurants with annual billing of up to ₹12 lakh and is currently available in India.

Why Zoho Is Moving Into Industry-Specific Software

Zoho's vertical strategy is built around the idea that companies increasingly want software that can be deployed without lengthy customisation.

“The customers are demanding the time to value,” Vembu told Mint, arguing that enterprises increasingly want to deploy software quickly and see results without spending years on large implementation projects.

He told the publication that Zoho could extend the strategy to as many as 50 verticals over the next two to three years. This is a stated company ambition rather than a confirmed product-launch schedule.

Vembu separately described the objective as providing “mass customisation of software”, with deep vertical products offered at mass-market pricing.

Zia Chat and Vertical SaaS Are Parts of the Same Strategy

The simultaneous announcement of Zia Chat and industry-specific applications is significant because the two initiatives are connected.

A general-purpose AI assistant may understand a company's documents and records, but specialised industries also operate under distinct processes, terminology and regulatory requirements.

By building software around those vertical-specific processes, Zoho can potentially give its AI systems additional structured business context.

In other words, Zoho's strategy is not simply to add an AI chatbot to existing software. It is attempting to combine AI + enterprise data + workflows + permissions + industry context into one platform.

That puts Zoho within a broader transformation of enterprise software as companies including Microsoft and Salesforce, as well as AI providers such as Anthropic, build systems designed to let AI agents interact with workplace applications and data.

India Business Provides Momentum

The new products arrive as Zoho reports strong growth in its home market.

According to the company, its India revenue increased 45% year-on-year in 2025, supported by products including Zoho Workplace, Zoho One, Zoho CRM, Zoho Books and Zoho People.

Zoho reported strong traction across ITeS, manufacturing, BFSI, professional services, retail and automotive sectors.

That existing customer base gives the company a foundation from which to sell more specialised vertical applications while positioning Zia Chat as a common AI layer across its software ecosystem.

What the Launch Means for Zoho

The September 23 announcements show Zoho pursuing two changes in enterprise software simultaneously.

The first is an interface shift: employees increasingly may ask AI to retrieve information and complete work rather than manually navigating individual applications.

The second is an industry shift: businesses increasingly expect software to understand their sector's processes rather than requiring generic applications to be heavily customised.

Zoho's bet is that combining those two trends can give businesses an AI interface that understands not only their data, but also the workflows and industry rules behind it.

Whether that approach delivers the promised productivity gains will ultimately depend on real-world adoption after Zia Chat enters early access and the new vertical products reach more customers.
