Indian Startups Raise $203.4 Million in a Week as AI and EV Deals Drive Funding Surge

Indian startups raised $203.4 million across 21 deals between September 21 and September 25, according to Inc42's weekly funding tracker. Large rounds involving Ultraviolette Automotive and enterprise AI company Ema accounted for most of the capital, while seed-stage activity remained active across AI, consumer and technology businesses.

Indian startup funding jumps to $203.4 million

India's startup funding activity accelerated sharply during the September 21-25 week, with companies collectively raising $203.4 million across 21 disclosed deals, according to data compiled by Inc42.

The weekly total was about 3.4 times the $58.9 million raised by 14 startups in the preceding week, signalling a substantial week-on-week increase in disclosed capital.

However, the headline number needs context: the week's funding was highly concentrated.

Two large transactions — Ultraviolette Automotive's $85 million round and Ema's $77 million Series B — together accounted for $162 million, or nearly four-fifths of the $203.4 million weekly total.

That means the week's jump was driven primarily by a small number of large transactions rather than an evenly distributed rise in funding across the ecosystem.

Ultraviolette leads the week with $85 million funding round

Electric two-wheeler maker Ultraviolette Automotive announced an $85 million funding round, making it the largest disclosed startup transaction included in the week's tally.

The round was led by Yali Capital and TDK Ventures, with participation from Intel CEO and Walden International chairman Lip-Bu Tan and existing investors.

The company plans to deploy the new capital toward expanding manufacturing, developing its next generation of electric-vehicle platforms and growing internationally.

Ultraviolette is currently working on scaling its F77 and X-47 motorcycles while preparing products including the Tesseract electric scooter and Shockwave motorcycle.

The company is also targeting international expansion, including the US market, as well as opportunities in Latin America and Southeast Asia.

The $85 million financing was separately reported by Mint, Business Standard and other publications, confirming the size and principal investors in the round.

Ema's $77 million Series B puts AI at the centre of the week

Artificial intelligence emerged as the largest sector by funding in Inc42's weekly dataset, with five AI companies collectively raising $89.3 million.

Most of that amount came from one transaction.

Enterprise AI company Ema raised $77 million in a Series B round led by Creaegis, with existing investors Accel, S32 and Prosus increasing their investments.

Ema confirmed the financing in its own funding announcement.

The round takes the company's total funding to $140 million and, according to Ema, more than quadruples its valuation compared with its previous financing round. The company did not disclose its latest valuation.

Founded by Surojit Chatterjee and Souvik Sen, Ema develops AI systems designed to automate enterprise workflows across functions such as human resources, IT and finance.

The company said the new capital will support expansion of its go-to-market operations and further investment in its enterprise AI platform.

AI's weekly total was also concentrated

Although AI companies collectively accounted for $89.3 million in Inc42's dataset, Ema's $77 million financing represented roughly 86% of that sector total.

Other AI transactions included:

Dextr AI — $6.7 million: The hospitality-focused AI company raised seed funding led by Elevation Capital, with participation from Foundation Capital. Dextr said the money will be used for product development, hiring and expansion across global hospitality markets, including India.

Sol Foundry — $4 million: Inc42's tracker lists a $4 million funding round involving investors including General Catalyst, Nexus Venture Partners and DeVC.

ByteAsk — $1 million: The enterprise AI company was listed as raising pre-seed funding from Y Combinator and Entrepreneur First.

Demoverse — $600,000: Inc42 listed Lumikai and Marlan Space as investors in the pre-seed round.

The distribution shows why the week's AI total should not be interpreted as an across-the-board funding boom: one large Series B accounted for most of the capital allocated to the sector.

Rivet raises $10.5 million in seed funding

Rivet was another significant transaction during the week, raising $10.5 million in seed capital.

The social-matching and dating startup was founded by former Tinder and Match Group executive Taru Kapoor.

Its seed financing included Peak XV Partners, Shine Capital and Blume Ventures.

Rivet is attempting to differentiate itself from conventional dating applications through a model it calls “Social Matching”, in which other people can participate in suggesting or assessing potential matches rather than leaving users to rely entirely on individual profile-swiping.

The company has launched in the United States.

GalaxEye gets government RDI backing for satellite technology

Bengaluru-based spacetech company GalaxEye Space Solutions was another notable name during the week, although its transaction differs from a conventional venture-capital equity round.

The Technology Development Board under the Department of Science and Technology signed an agreement with GalaxEye for ₹63.84 crore in financial support under the government's Research, Development and Innovation Fund.

According to the Press Information Bureau, the support is linked to a project with an approved cost of ₹247.69 crore.

The project is intended to develop a multisensor satellite using GalaxEye's indigenous OptoSAR technology, combining synthetic aperture radar and optical imaging.

The project targets high-resolution Earth observation of less than 0.5 metres and aims to advance the technology from Technology Readiness Level 6 to TRL 9.

This distinction matters: the GalaxEye support should be understood as government-backed RDI financial support, rather than being treated identically to a standard private VC equity investment.

Seed-stage companies raised $20.3 million

Early-stage funding also remained active during the week.

According to Inc42, five seed-stage startups raised a combined $20.3 million.

Rivet's $10.5 million transaction alone represented more than half of that seed-stage capital.

Other seed transactions included Dextr AI's $6.7 million round and smaller investments across consumer and technology companies.

This indicates that investors continued to deploy money at the early stage even as two much larger transactions dominated the overall funding total.

Ecommerce generated more deals but much less capital

Another interesting feature of the week's funding activity was the difference between deal count and money raised.

Inc42's tracker showed ecommerce leading in the number of transactions, with six startups collectively raising about $3.8 million in disclosed funding.

The companies included ONYA, betterhood, Protein Pantry, Nuvah, Indian Walker and Unniyarcha.

Some transaction amounts were undisclosed.

The contrast with AI is significant: ecommerce produced more deals, while AI attracted substantially more disclosed capital because of Ema's large Series B.

What the $203 million figure actually tells us

The week's numbers show stronger funding activity compared with the immediately preceding week, but they do not necessarily indicate that capital availability increased equally across India's startup ecosystem.

The two largest disclosed rounds — Ultraviolette and Ema — contributed about 79.6% of the week's $203.4 million total.

The top three transactions, after adding Rivet's $10.5 million round, accounted for roughly 84.8%.

This concentration means the weekly funding total can change dramatically when one or two growth-stage companies announce large rounds.

At the same time, the presence of multiple seed and pre-seed transactions suggests that investors continued making smaller bets across AI, consumer, ecommerce, gaming and enterprise technology.

The week's activity therefore presents two different signals: large pools of capital remain available for selected companies with ambitious expansion plans, while smaller early-stage rounds continue across a broader set of sectors.

Beyond funding: India's startup capital market is widening

Private fundraising was not the only capital-market activity surrounding India's startup ecosystem during the week.

Inc42 also highlighted a number of companies moving toward or through the public-market process, including Moneyview, AceVector, Furlenco and Spinny.

Separately, government-backed funding is becoming increasingly relevant for capital-intensive technologies such as space and advanced research, as illustrated by the GalaxEye agreement.

Taken together, these developments show that startup financing is increasingly coming from several channels — traditional venture capital, growth capital, public markets and government-backed strategic technology programmes.

What to watch next

The key question is whether the higher weekly funding level can be sustained without relying on a handful of unusually large transactions.

Future weekly data will also show whether investor appetite for AI continues beyond major enterprise-AI rounds and whether funding expands more broadly across consumer, fintech, ecommerce, deeptech and other sectors.

For companies such as Ultraviolette, the next test is operational: converting fresh capital into manufacturing capacity, product launches and international expansion.

For AI startups, investors will increasingly be watching whether rapid adoption translates into durable revenue and repeat enterprise spending.
