‘Hanuman Ansh’ Cast and Makers Meet Yogi Adityanath Following Box-Office Breakthrough
The makers of Hanuman Ansh arrived in Lucknow this week in circumstances few would have predicted when their film opened in cinemas a month earlier.
Director Vishal Chaturvedi, lead actor Shobhinaw Satyaa and other members of the film’s team met Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath at his official residence on September 8. The courtesy meeting followed a theatrical run that has turned the Neem Karoli Baba-inspired drama from a modest release into one of the year’s unexpected Hindi-language successes.
The Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister’s Office shared photographs from the meeting. During the interaction, the filmmakers discussed the spiritual background of the story and showed Adityanath sequences connected with Guru Gorakhnath and the Nath tradition.
Film’s Spiritual Context Discussed During Meeting
Hanuman Ansh traces the spiritual journey associated with Neem Karoli Baba, widely known among his followers as Maharaj-ji.
Chaturvedi has said that research conducted for the film pointed to Neem Karoli Baba spending time with Nath saints during his early spiritual journey. That connection became part of the discussion with Adityanath, who is also the head priest of the Gorakhnath Math in Gorakhpur.
Accounts of Neem Karoli Baba’s spiritual experiences and supernatural abilities belong to religious tradition and the film’s devotional narrative; they should not be treated as independently established historical evidence.
Adityanath praised the team’s work and wished the film continued success.
A Theatrical Run That Started Quietly
The meeting comes after an extraordinary change in the film’s commercial fortunes.
Released on August 7, Hanuman Ansh collected approximately ₹10 lakh on its opening day, according to reported box-office figures. Its opening weekend was around ₹64 lakh, followed by roughly ₹1.07 crore during its first week.
Those numbers would ordinarily point to a limited theatrical run. Instead, business began improving after the opening week.
By September 9, Bollywood Hungama reported domestic collections of ₹146.82 crore. Sacnilk’s estimate was lower, at roughly ₹143 crore net in India.
The difference is worth noting. Box-office trackers rely on different reporting networks and methodologies, so their figures should be treated as estimates rather than audited financial results. Both sets of data, however, describe the same broad pattern: the film expanded dramatically after a very small opening.
Word of Mouth Became the Film’s Main Asset
Hanuman Ansh did not begin its run with the profile usually associated with a ₹100 crore-plus Hindi film.
Reports have placed its production budget at about ₹2 crore, and the cast does not feature the kind of established mainstream star typically used to drive a large opening weekend.
Its growth came later.
Audience interest strengthened as the theatrical run progressed, particularly among viewers drawn to religious and spiritual cinema. That gave the film something increasingly difficult to manufacture through marketing alone: sustained business after release.
The pattern also makes comparisons based solely on opening-day collections misleading. Hanuman Ansh generated only a fraction of its eventual business during its first weekend, with later weeks carrying much more weight than they do for a conventional front-loaded release.
Shobhinaw Satyaa Leads the Cast
Written and directed by Vishal Chaturvedi, the film follows Lakshmi Narayan on a spiritual journey that eventually leads towards the life associated with Neem Karoli Baba.
Shobhinaw Satyaa plays the central role. The cast also includes Chandan K. Anand as Ram Nandan Bhosale, along with Anil Rastogi, Nikhil Dubey, Bhagvandas Patel, Neha Paranjpe and Udaysinh Rajput.
Part of the narrative unfolds against the backdrop of pre-Independence India. After losing his mother, Lakshmi Narayan leaves home and travels through northern India in search of spiritual meaning.
Rather than approaching Neem Karoli Baba as a conventional biographical subject, the film draws substantially on devotional accounts and traditions surrounding his life. That positioning has also shaped the audience the film has found during its theatrical run.
Overseas Release Opens the Next Phase
After establishing itself in India, Hanuman Ansh is preparing to reach audiences overseas.
The film is scheduled for an international theatrical release on September 11, 2026, with Hombale Films handling distribution through Hombale Overseas.
The overseas rollout gives the producers an opportunity to reach Indian diaspora audiences after the domestic run exceeded the expectations created by the film’s opening numbers.
For a project that entered cinemas with relatively little mainstream attention, that represents a considerable change in scale. The Lucknow meeting is another consequence of that growth: a film that initially had to find its audience gradually is now receiving attention well beyond the circumstances of its release.
