Indian cinema is heading towards a major Christmas box-office showdown as Nagarjuna Akkineni’s landmark 100th film, King100, has confirmed a December 24, 2026 theatrical release—the same date already reserved for Shah Rukh Khan’s highly anticipated King.

Nagarjuna’s ‘King100’ Sets Up Christmas Clash With Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘King’

The Christmas 2026 box office is becoming increasingly crowded, with two of Indian cinema’s biggest stars now preparing to arrive in theatres on the same day.

Nagarjuna Akkineni’s milestone 100th film has officially been titled King100, and its makers have confirmed that the movie will reach theatres worldwide on December 24, 2026. That puts the film directly alongside Shah Rukh Khan’s King, which is also scheduled for a Christmas Eve release.

The announcement came on August 29, Nagarjuna’s 67th birthday, when Annapurna Studios unveiled the first glimpse of the project. Beyond introducing the film’s title and central character, the promotional video transformed an already busy festive season into a potentially significant box-office contest.

‘King100’ Marks a Major Milestone for Nagarjuna

The significance of King100 extends beyond its release date. The movie represents Nagarjuna’s 100th film, giving the project special importance in the veteran Telugu star’s career.

Written and directed by R.A. Karthik and produced by Annapurna Studios, the film features music composed by Devi Sri Prasad. Raja Mahadhevan is handling cinematography, while Navin Nooli is serving as editor.

The newly released glimpse presents Nagarjuna in a stylish, commanding avatar while suggesting a story built around ambition, wealth, identity and power.

The footage indicates a rags-to-riches journey in which Nagarjuna’s character rises from modest circumstances to become an influential figure. At the same time, the promotional material hints that the film could have a strong emotional dimension beneath its larger-than-life presentation.

Nagarjuna and Tabu Reunite on Screen

Another major attraction surrounding King100 is the reunion of Nagarjuna and Tabu.

The two actors have previously appeared together in Telugu films including Ninne Pelladatha and Aavida Maa Aavide. Their return to the screen together adds a nostalgic element to a movie that is already being positioned as a career landmark for Nagarjuna.

Details about Tabu’s character remain limited, although Nagarjuna has indicated that she has an important role in the film. He has also described King100 as having a strong family element built around a father-daughter relationship.

Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘King’ Is Already a Major Christmas Release

Standing opposite King100 is one of Hindi cinema’s most closely watched upcoming films.

Shah Rukh Khan’s King, directed by Siddharth Anand, is officially scheduled to release on December 24, 2026. Red Chillies Entertainment also lists that date for the film.

The project carries considerable expectations because it reunites Shah Rukh Khan with Siddharth Anand after Pathaan. It is also notable for bringing Shah Rukh and his daughter Suhana Khan together on screen.

With both films occupying the same date, audiences could now see two major star-driven Indian releases competing during one of the most lucrative periods of the theatrical calendar.

Why the ‘King100’ vs ‘King’ Clash Matters

The contest is interesting for reasons beyond the similarity of the two titles.

Nagarjuna remains one of Telugu cinema’s most established stars, while Shah Rukh Khan commands a massive Hindi-language and international audience. Their simultaneous releases could therefore become another test of how increasingly pan-Indian moviegoing habits influence traditional regional and Hindi-film markets.

The Christmas period can support substantial theatrical business because of holidays and increased leisure spending. However, two major releases can still compete for premium screens, show timings and audience attention.

That does not automatically mean one film must lose for the other to succeed.

Their eventual performance will depend on several factors—including reviews, audience word of mouth, genre appeal, screen allocation, marketing and how strongly each movie connects outside its traditional core market.

Nagarjuna Responds Positively to the Box-Office Face-Off

Nagarjuna himself has adopted a welcoming approach toward the simultaneous release.

Speaking about the situation, the actor wished Shah Rukh Khan and his film well and suggested that the festive period has enough space to accommodate both movies. He also pointed to Christmas as a favourable release period for his films in the past.

That response offers a more balanced perspective than framing the situation purely as a battle between two stars.

Large films releasing together inevitably create competition, but strong audience demand can sometimes allow multiple titles to perform successfully during extended holiday periods.

Two ‘Kings’, One Christmas Weekend

The similarity between the titles will inevitably add another layer to the conversation.

King100 celebrates Nagarjuna’s landmark 100th film while presenting him in a powerful new character. Shah Rukh Khan’s King, meanwhile, is being positioned as another major theatrical event from one of Hindi cinema’s biggest stars.

For now, December 24, 2026 belongs to both.

Whether the Christmas weekend ultimately produces a fierce box-office battle or enough room for both films to thrive will become clearer as trailers, marketing campaigns and advance bookings bring the release date closer.

What is already certain is that the arrival of King100 has made Christmas 2026 considerably more interesting for Indian cinema audiences.
