InsuranceDekho Founders May Shift Roles Before IPO, but Company Denies Leadership Change

InsuranceDekho co-founders Ankit Agrawal and Ish Babbar are reportedly considering a shift from their executive positions to promoter roles as the insurtech company prepares for a potential IPO. InsuranceDekho, however, has denied reports of a leadership change and says its co-founders remain actively involved in the business.

InsuranceDekho Founders’ Roles in Focus Ahead of IPO

InsuranceDekho co-founders Ankit Agrawal and Ish Babbar are reportedly considering changes to their executive roles as the insurance distribution company moves closer to a potential stock-market listing.

Reports suggest Agrawal, currently the company’s CEO, and Babbar, its CTO, could eventually transition toward promoter-level roles, potentially reducing their involvement in day-to-day executive responsibilities.

However, no such transition has been officially confirmed.

InsuranceDekho has denied that its co-founders are planning to exit their executive positions, maintaining that they remain actively involved with the company.

That distinction is critical: the possibility of a role change is currently based on media reports and people familiar with the discussions, rather than a formal announcement from InsuranceDekho.

Reports Point to Discussions Over Strategic Direction

According to reports, discussions around the founders’ roles come amid differences concerning the company's strategic direction as InsuranceDekho enters a new phase involving integration, fundraising and preparations for a possible IPO.

Agrawal and Babbar could reportedly remain associated with InsuranceDekho even if their responsibilities eventually change.

The discussions have raised the possibility of a transition toward a more professionally managed structure, with professional executives potentially taking greater responsibility for daily operations.

For now, however, this remains unconfirmed.

InsuranceDekho has pushed back against suggestions of an imminent founder exit or confirmed leadership transition.

Company Says Founders Remain Actively Involved

InsuranceDekho’s position contrasts with reports suggesting the founders are preparing to step back.

The company has said its co-founders continue to be actively involved in the business, rejecting reports of a leadership change.

This position is also significant because InsuranceDekho and RenewBuy announced their business combination only recently.

At the time of the merger announcement, the companies explicitly said that Ankit Agrawal would lead the combined entity and that founders from both InsuranceDekho and RenewBuy would continue with the merged organisation to provide continuity in leadership and execution.

Agrawal said at the time that the immediate priorities were disciplined execution and seamless integration.

Therefore, unless InsuranceDekho formally announces a change, reports about Agrawal and Babbar moving to promoter roles should be treated as discussions rather than a completed management reshuffle.

IPO Plans Add Significance to Leadership Question

The speculation comes at a particularly important time for InsuranceDekho.

The Gurugram-based insurance distribution company has been preparing for a potential IPO and was earlier reported to be targeting a public issue of approximately ₹2,500 crore to ₹3,000 crore.

Earlier reports said the company was aiming for a valuation of around ₹9,500 crore and targeting a potential listing by March 2027.

The proposed IPO is expected to include both a fresh issue of shares and an offer for sale (OFS) by some existing shareholders, with the primary component expected to account for the larger portion.

The company has also reportedly been working on a ₹100 crore-₹150 crore pre-IPO funding round at its existing valuation.

These IPO and fundraising plans are reported targets and remain subject to company decisions, market conditions and regulatory processes.

RenewBuy Merger Has Significantly Expanded InsuranceDekho

The leadership reports arrive shortly after InsuranceDekho and RenewBuy announced the consolidation of their businesses.

The combined operation is running under the InsuranceDekho brand.

According to figures released when the merger was announced, the combined platform has:

  • More than ₹6,600 crore in premium

  • Over 600,000 digital partners

  • Coverage across 98.57% of India's postal codes, based on data as of March 31, 2026

  • Facilitated more than 20 million insurance policies since inception

The companies described the merged business as India's largest AI-enabled insurance distribution platform when measured by premium generated through point-of-sales persons.

The combination also brings together InsuranceDekho's stronger presence in northern and western India with RenewBuy's footprint in southern markets.

AI and Digital Distribution at the Centre of the Combined Business

InsuranceDekho's strategy extends beyond simply aggregating insurance policies online.

The combined platform uses technology and AI-powered tools to support insurance partners, including real-time plan recommendations, digital onboarding, policy issuance and advisory functions.

It operates as a multi-insurer distribution ecosystem offering products across categories including motor, health, life and commercial insurance.

The scale of the RenewBuy combination makes the question of management structure particularly relevant.

Integrating two large distribution networks while simultaneously preparing for public markets can require changes in governance, reporting structures and executive responsibilities. However, such general considerations do not establish that InsuranceDekho has decided to replace or move its founders.

Ankit Agrawal Was Recently Named Leader of the Combined Entity

One reason the latest reports require careful interpretation is the timing.

When the InsuranceDekho-RenewBuy merger was announced in early September 2026, the companies specifically identified Ankit Agrawal as the leader of the unified business.

The announcement also stated that founders from both companies would remain involved.

That confirmed statement carries greater certainty than reports of ongoing discussions about future roles.

It is therefore possible that discussions about longer-term management arrangements are occurring while the existing leadership structure remains in place.

Unless the company announces otherwise, Agrawal's recently confirmed leadership role remains the clearest official position.

Why Leadership Stability Matters Before an IPO

Leadership changes can attract heightened attention when a company is approaching public markets.

Potential IPO investors typically examine not only revenue growth and financial performance but also management continuity, corporate governance, founder involvement and succession planning.

A transition from founder-led management to professional management is not necessarily negative. Many growing companies eventually separate promoter ownership and strategic oversight from daily executive management.

But for InsuranceDekho, the key question is not whether such a model could work. It is whether a transition has actually been approved.

At present, the answer is no — at least publicly.

Media reports indicate discussions about possible changes, while InsuranceDekho maintains that its founders remain actively involved.

What Happens Next?

InsuranceDekho is entering a crucial period.

The company has recently completed a major business combination with RenewBuy, is reportedly exploring pre-IPO capital and continues preparations for a potential public listing.

Any formal change involving its CEO, CTO or promoter structure would therefore be material to the company's IPO story.

Until InsuranceDekho, its board or its founders formally announce such a decision, reports of Agrawal and Babbar stepping back should be described as reported discussions rather than a confirmed leadership change.

For investors and the wider startup ecosystem, the next significant development will be whether InsuranceDekho maintains its current founder-led structure through its IPO preparations or formally introduces a new executive leadership arrangement.
