A Mystery Built Around Suspicion
As its title suggests, Shaque: Trust No One places doubt and mistrust at the centre of its narrative.
The series brings Chopra together with Tahir Raj Bhasin, Jennifer Winget, Soni Razdan and Anup Soni, giving the thriller an ensemble drawn from both film and television.
Its central premise appears designed to keep loyalties uncertain as the story progresses. Rather than relying simply on the mechanics of a mystery, the drama is expected to draw tension from relationships, competing motives and questions about whom its characters can believe.
For Chopra, that offers a different canvas from the feature-film roles that have shaped most of her career.
Chopra Filmed the Series During Pregnancy
The circumstances surrounding the production have also become part of the conversation around the show.
Chopra has said she filmed portions of Shaque while pregnant. Speaking about that period, she recalled receiving considerable support from the production team and said she was treated “like a baby” on set.
Instead of travelling back and forth during the schedule, she chose to stay at the filming location. Her husband, politician Raghav Chadha, travelled to Shimla to spend time with her while she was working.
Chopra and Chadha welcomed their first child, a son, in October 2025.
Those details give Shaque an unusual place in her filmography. The project was made during one phase of her personal life and is arriving as she begins another, with Chopra now returning to regular professional commitments after motherhood.
Motherhood and the Changing Career Path for Actresses
At the trailer launch, Chopra also spoke about how the Hindi entertainment industry treats actresses after they become mothers.
She referred to Alia Bhatt, Deepika Padukone and Priyanka Chopra while discussing women who have continued working at a high level after motherhood.
The comparison reflects a visible change in mainstream Hindi entertainment. Marriage and motherhood were once routinely treated as turning points that could sharply narrow the roles available to leading actresses. That assumption has weakened as established performers continue to headline films, series and major commercial projects after having children.
For Chopra, Shaque arrives within that changing professional landscape.
From ‘Amar Singh Chamkila’ to ‘Shaque’
Chopra's previous major screen appearance came in Imtiaz Ali's Amar Singh Chamkila, in which she starred alongside Diljit Dosanjh.
The film was released on Netflix, but that did not constitute her debut in an OTT series. Amar Singh Chamkila remained a feature film distributed through a streaming platform.
Shaque marks the more significant format change.
A series gives an actor more narrative space than a conventional two-hour film, particularly in a mystery where information can be revealed gradually and perceptions of individual characters can change from episode to episode.
That distinction could be important for Chopra as she chooses the direction of the next stage of her career.
A Career Spanning Romance, Comedy and Drama
Chopra entered Hindi cinema with Ladies vs Ricky Bahl in 2011 and quickly established herself with Ishaqzaade.
She subsequently worked across romance, comedy and drama in films including Shuddh Desi Romance, Hasee Toh Phasee, Golmaal Again and Sandeep Aur Pinky Faraar.
Her choices have not followed a single genre or commercial template. Amar Singh Chamkila offered another shift, placing her in a biographical musical drama based on the lives of Punjabi singers Amar Singh Chamkila and Amarjot Kaur.
Shaque now moves her towards a darker, suspense-driven story.
Why ‘Shaque’ Is an Important Test
Streaming debuts are no longer unusual for established Hindi film actors. What matters more is whether the format gives them material substantially different from what they have already done in cinema.
That will be the more useful measure of Shaque for Chopra.
The project combines a new format with an ensemble cast and a genre built around uncertainty rather than conventional star-driven spectacle. It also arrives after a period in which Chopra's acting appearances have been relatively selective.
For Netflix, her presence gives the series an established film name while Jennifer Winget and Anup Soni bring substantial television recognition. Tahir Raj Bhasin and Soni Razdan further broaden the cast.
The combination makes Shaque more than a vehicle built around a single performer.
For Chopra, however, its significance is straightforward. More than a decade after entering Hindi cinema, she is testing a different form of storytelling at a point when her career is entering a new phase.
