The Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission (DERC) has approved a revision in the Power Purchase Adjustment Charge (PPAC), a surcharge levied to compensate power distribution companies for fluctuations in electricity procurement costs. As a result, consumers in Delhi are likely to see an increase in their electricity bills in the coming months.
Power distribution companies argued that rising fuel and power purchase costs necessitated the surcharge revision. While the increase varies depending on the electricity provider and consumption levels, the move is expected to affect households, businesses, and commercial establishments across the city. Consumer groups have expressed concerns over the additional financial burden, especially amid rising living costs.
