Salman Khan Performs Aarti at Family Ganpati Visarjan; Arpita Khan Steps In During Viral Moment

Salman Khan joined his family for Ganpati visarjan celebrations in Mumbai, taking part in the aarti before the family bid farewell to Lord Ganesha.

The celebration was held at Salman’s brother Sohail Khan's residence and brought together several members of the Khan family. Videos from the gathering showed Salman participating in the rituals, while another candid moment involving his sister Arpita Khan quickly attracted attention online.

As Salman began performing the aarti, he initially moved the aarti plate in the opposite direction. Arpita, standing close by, noticed it and immediately guided him to correct the movement.

Salman followed her cue and continued the ritual.

The brief interaction between the siblings subsequently became one of the most widely discussed moments from the family's Ganesh festivities.

Salman Khan joins family at Sohail Khan's home

The celebrations took place on Tuesday evening at Sohail Khan's residence in Mumbai.

Salman was photographed arriving for the occasion and later appeared in videos from the family gathering.

Iulia Vantur was also present and participated in the prayers alongside Salman, according to reports and visuals from the celebration.

Other members of the Khan family seen during the festivities included Arpita Khan, Alvira Khan Agnihotri, Sohail Khan, Arhaan Khan, Nirvaan Khan and Arpita's daughter Ayat.

Videos also showed family members dancing together as part of the visarjan celebrations.

The Arpita-Salman moment that went viral

One particular video from the aarti drew significantly more attention than the other clips.

Salman can be seen holding the aarti plate and beginning the circular movement in the opposite direction. Arpita quickly gestures to him, indicating the correct direction.

Salman immediately changes direction and continues.

The Indian Express, India Today and Hindustan Times independently reported the moment after footage from the celebration circulated online.

The interaction was brief and informal, but its spontaneous nature helped the clip spread across entertainment and social-media coverage.

Some social-media users described the sibling interaction as affectionate or humorous. Those reactions are opinions from viewers, however, rather than part of the underlying factual event.

The family's Ganpati celebrations began before the visarjan

The visarjan was the concluding stage of the Khan family's celebration rather than a standalone event.

Earlier coverage showed Sohail Khan welcoming Ganpati Bappa at his home. Salman Khan's mother Salma Khan participated in the aarti during the festivities, while Arpita Khan and Alvira Khan Agnihotri were among the family members joining the puja.

The subsequent visarjan brought several generations of the family together.

That context is useful because viral clips of Salman performing the aarti may otherwise give the impression that the gathering was primarily centred on the actor. Available footage instead shows a broader family celebration in which Salman was one of several participants.

Iulia Vantur also joins the prayers

Iulia Vantur was seen standing with Salman during the ceremony and joining the prayers.

Photos and videos from the celebration show the two participating in the religious proceedings alongside other family members.

Reports sometimes describe Vantur as Salman's girlfriend or rumoured partner. Neither Salman nor Vantur has publicly established such a relationship in the material reviewed for this article.

For that reason, describing her simply as Iulia Vantur—and noting her documented presence at the celebration—is more accurate than presenting a relationship label as confirmed fact.

Ganpati celebrations are a recurring Khan family tradition

This year's celebration is not an isolated occurrence for Salman and his family.

The Khan family has celebrated Ganesh Chaturthi over many years, with Salman repeatedly appearing in family aartis and visarjan festivities.

Past celebrations have similarly included members of the extended family gathering for prayers before participating in the immersion ceremony.

That history helps explain why the latest videos are better understood as another edition of an established family tradition rather than a new public initiative or promotional event.

What does Ganpati Visarjan signify?

Ganesh Chaturthi begins with the installation and worship of Lord Ganesha and concludes with the immersion—or visarjan—of the idol.

Households do not necessarily keep their idols for the entire festival. Depending on family tradition, immersion can take place after one-and-a-half, three, five, seven or more days, with the major public culmination traditionally occurring around Anant Chaturdashi.

In 2026, Ganesh Chaturthi began on September 14, while September 15 was among the dates on which families observing a shorter installation could perform visarjan.

That explains why the Khan family's immersion took place so early in the wider Ganeshotsav period.

Why the story became bigger than a celebrity appearance

Celebrity Ganesh Chaturthi coverage is common in Mumbai every year. Salman Khan's participation therefore wasn't, by itself, particularly unusual.

The distinguishing element this time was the unscripted interaction between Salman and Arpita.

The footage captured a minor mistake, an immediate correction by his sister and Salman simply adjusting what he was doing.

That made the clip naturally suited to social media, where small candid interactions involving major celebrities often travel further than carefully staged photographs.

But the available video supports only a straightforward description: Salman initially moved the aarti in the opposite direction, Arpita indicated the correction and he followed it.

Claims about what Salman was thinking, whether he had forgotten the ritual, or what the interaction supposedly says about his religious knowledge would go beyond what the footage can establish.

JantaScope Context: A family tradition in a highly public festival

There is another reason the Khan family's Ganpati celebration attracts recurring attention.

Ganesh Chaturthi occupies an especially prominent place in Mumbai's cultural calendar, and participation extends far beyond public pandals to private celebrations across the city.

Bollywood's Ganesh festivities consequently become part of a much larger Mumbai tradition rather than existing purely as celebrity events.

For the Khan family, public interest is amplified by the family's long history of celebrating the festival together.

This year's most widely circulated moment happened to be Salman and Arpita's brief exchange during the aarti.

Strip away the viral captions and interpretations, however, and the underlying story is considerably simpler: Salman Khan joined his family at Sohail Khan's home, participated in the Ganpati aarti and visarjan, and was briefly corrected by his sister Arpita during the ritual.
