Salman Khan Takes On Body-Shaming Trolls

Bollywood star Salman Khan has strongly criticised the culture of trolling celebrities over their bodies, age and appearance, speaking out during a recent Bigg Boss 20 Weekend Ka Vaar episode.

His remarks attracted particular attention because they came amid online criticism directed at Katrina Kaif following a recent public appearance. While Salman did not name Katrina in the remarks about pregnancy, several reports connected his comments to the body-shaming she had recently faced.

Addressing the issue, Salman questioned why women should be attacked online over natural physical changes associated with pregnancy.

“Why do you troll somebody who gets pregnant? Pregnant hone ke baad everyone puts on weight... Jab woh picturon mein wapas ajayegi toh woh fit ajayengi... she wants to spend time with her family,” Salman said.

His comments effectively challenged the expectation that actresses should immediately return to their previous appearance after childbirth.

Why Salman Khan’s Comments Are Being Linked to Katrina Kaif

Katrina Kaif recently faced comments about her appearance after attending Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations with her husband, Vicky Kaushal.

Some social-media users focused on changes in her appearance and weight rather than the event itself, prompting criticism of the way women — particularly actresses — are scrutinised after pregnancy.

Salman did not explicitly identify Katrina while discussing pregnancy-related trolling. However, the timing and context of his comments led multiple media reports to interpret his remarks as a defence of his longtime friend and former co-star.

Katrina and Vicky welcomed their son, Vihaan, in November 2025.

Salman Khan Says Criticism of Work Is Different From Personal Attacks

Salman also drew a distinction between criticising an actor’s professional work and personally attacking someone over their body or appearance.

He indicated that audiences are entitled to say they dislike an actor’s performance or film, but argued that such criticism should not turn into personal abuse.

The actor made his point dramatically on the Bigg Boss 20 stage, removing his hat, jacket and shirt and wiping away his makeup while confronting comments about his own appearance.

“Bhai mota ho gaya hai! Bhai ko troll karo,” Salman said, effectively inviting critics to direct their attention at him instead.

The moment highlighted the larger point he was making: public figures may be open to criticism for their work, but their bodies, age and personal lives should not automatically become targets for ridicule.

‘Of Course, I’m 60 Years Old’

Salman also addressed age-related comments about himself.

“Of course, I’m 60 years old, yaar,” he said.

Referring to his 1989 film Maine Pyar Kiya, Salman added that people could not expect him to look the same throughout his life.

“You cannot be Maine Pyar Kiya all the time,” he said.

His remarks broadened the discussion beyond post-pregnancy body-shaming to the expectations placed on celebrities to maintain a particular appearance despite ageing.

Salman Also Mentions Sohail Khan and Varun Dhawan

Salman went on to object to personal comments directed at his brother Sohail Khan and actor Varun Dhawan.

“Pehle apne aap ko dekho, apne jism ko dekho uske baad karna yeh sab... apne maa baap ko dekho... uske baad troll karna... mazak udhana Sohail ke upar, Varun ke upar, it’s not done,” he said.

The actor’s wider argument was that online criticism should not become an excuse to mock people over their physical appearance.

Salman Khan Criticises Intrusive Paparazzi Photography

The Bigg Boss 20 host also raised a separate concern about paparazzi culture, criticising photographers who capture women from angles that focus unnecessarily on their bodies.

“Paparazzi hip shots lete hain, taangon ke shots lete hain, aur agar peeche se shot mil jaaye toh woh bhi lete hain. None of these heroines, none of the girls like it,” Salman said.

He referred to an incident involving his niece being photographed from behind and questioned the mentality behind such content.

The issue has been raised previously by several female celebrities who have objected publicly to intrusive camera angles and photographs they considered inappropriate.

A Wider Debate Over Celebrity Body-Shaming

The episode has brought renewed attention to the difference between legitimate criticism of public figures and attacks centred on their bodies.

In Katrina Kaif’s case, discussion surrounding her recent appearance became focused on her post-pregnancy body rather than her professional work. Salman’s comments shifted the conversation toward why such physical changes become subjects of public judgment in the first place.

Although he did not directly name Katrina while making the pregnancy remarks, their timing — amid the criticism she had been receiving — explains why the comments have been widely viewed as a defence of the actor.

For Salman, the message extended beyond one celebrity: ageing, pregnancy and physical change are normal parts of life, while criticism of an actor’s work is a separate matter.
