Awarapan 2 Enters ₹100 Crore Club in India

Awarapan 2 has continued its impressive opening-week performance at the box office, becoming one of the notable Hindi-film successes of 2026.

According to box-office figures reported on August 19, the film collected approximately ₹9.75 crore net in India on its fifth day, taking its cumulative domestic net collection to around ₹100.75 crore. Its India gross was reported at approximately ₹120.33 crore.

The milestone is particularly significant for lead actor Emraan Hashmi, with Awarapan 2 becoming his first solo-led film to cross the ₹100 crore mark at the Indian box office.

Worldwide Collection Reaches ₹144 Crore

The film has also attracted audiences outside India. Its overseas gross stood at roughly ₹23.80 crore after five days, helping push its worldwide gross collection to approximately ₹144.13 crore.

International business reportedly strengthened after a comparatively slower beginning, with markets including the Middle East and North America contributing to the overseas total.

The combination of strong Indian collections and improving overseas business has given the film considerable momentum during its first theatrical week.

Strong Opening Weekend Builds Momentum

The ₹100 crore milestone did not arrive solely because of the opening day. Awarapan 2 built a substantial base during its opening weekend and then maintained respectable collections as the working week began.

Reports put its opening-weekend India net collection above ₹81 crore, followed by approximately ₹9.25 crore on Monday and ₹9.75 crore on Tuesday. This weekday stability helped the movie cross ₹100 crore net within five days.

Crossing such a benchmark quickly is important because weekday performance often provides a clearer indication of audience demand once the initial excitement surrounding a major release begins to settle.

A Major Career Milestone for Emraan Hashmi

The performance gives Awarapan 2 additional significance beyond its raw box-office numbers.

Hashmi has built a long career around romantic dramas, thrillers and crime-oriented films, but the ₹100 crore domestic milestone represents a new commercial benchmark for a film led by him.

The sequel also benefits from the enduring recognition of the original Awarapan. Released in 2007, the first film did not become a major theatrical success but developed a strong following over time, particularly around its music, emotional storyline and Hashmi's portrayal of Shivam Pandit.

That history makes the sequel's commercial performance notable: a property whose reputation grew significantly after its original theatrical run has returned years later as a much larger box-office attraction.

Nostalgia Meets a New Theatrical Audience

Legacy sequels increasingly depend on more than nostalgia. Familiarity can generate initial attention, but sustaining collections beyond the opening weekend generally requires continued audience interest.

Awarapan 2 appears, at least during its first several days, to have converted the recognition surrounding the original film into theatrical demand.

For the industry, its performance could reinforce interest in reviving older films that developed strong audiences through television, music, streaming or home viewing after their original releases.

However, the success of one sequel does not guarantee that every revived franchise will work. Audience attachment to the characters, casting, music, marketing and the quality of the new story remain important variables.

What the ₹144 Crore Worldwide Total Means

Reaching roughly ₹144 crore worldwide within five days gives Awarapan 2 a strong foundation for the remainder of its theatrical run.

The next major test will be how well collections hold after the initial release-week momentum fades. A strong second weekend could significantly increase its lifetime total, while sharper weekday declines would slow its progress.

Box-office figures can also vary slightly among trade trackers because of differences between net, gross and overseas reporting. For that reason, the ₹100.75 crore India net and ₹144.13 crore worldwide gross figures should be understood as reported trade estimates rather than directly comparable accounting measures.

Balanced Analysis

The early numbers establish Awarapan 2 as a clear commercial success in its opening phase, but evaluating its complete theatrical performance will require more time.

Its biggest strengths appear to be the existing emotional connection to the Awarapan name, Emraan Hashmi's return as Shivam Pandit and strong initial audience interest. Sustained weekday collections have further strengthened its position.

At the same time, opening-week numbers represent only one part of a film's theatrical journey. Second-weekend retention, competition from upcoming releases and overseas staying power will determine how far the film can ultimately travel.

Still, crossing ₹100 crore net domestically in five days and reaching around ₹144 crore worldwide represents a substantial turnaround for a franchise whose original instalment became more celebrated with time than it was during its initial theatrical run.
