The Centre has defended its decision to promote E20 petrol, stating that offering pure petrol or E10 fuel as a separate option is not feasible due to logistical and supply-chain challenges.
According to the government, E20 fuel—containing 20% ethanol and 80% petrol—is a cleaner alternative that helps reduce carbon emissions, cuts India's dependence on imported crude oil, and supports domestic ethanol production. Officials emphasized that the transition to E20 is part of India's long-term strategy to improve energy security and promote sustainable transportation.
The government also highlighted that automobile manufacturers have introduced E20-compatible vehicles and continue to adapt their technologies to support higher ethanol blending. The Centre maintained that the environmental and economic benefits of E20 outweigh concerns regarding its adoption.
