Don 3 Controversy Escalates as Ranveer Singh’s Father Approaches IMPPA Over ₹45 Crore Claim

The long-running dispute surrounding Ranveer Singh’s reported exit from Don 3 has entered a new phase, with his father, Jagjit Singh Bhavnani, reportedly approaching the Indian Motion Picture Producers Association (IMPPA). Reports say Bhavnani has submitted a plea challenging a ₹45 crore claim made by Excel Entertainment, while the producers’ body is expected to examine documents from both sides before determining its next course of action.

Ranveer Singh’s Father Steps Into Don 3 Dispute

The controversy surrounding Don 3 has intensified after Ranveer Singh’s father, Jagjit Singh Bhavnani, reportedly met representatives of the Indian Motion Picture Producers Association and submitted documents connected to the dispute.

The latest development concerns Excel Entertainment’s reported claim of approximately ₹45 crore linked to Ranveer Singh’s departure from the high-profile project. IMPPA is now expected to study the submissions and evidence before deciding how the matter should proceed.

The intervention marks an important development because the disagreement, which had previously involved other industry organisations, is now moving toward a process in which both sides may have their documents and arguments examined.

What Is the ₹45 Crore Claim?

At the centre of the disagreement is Excel Entertainment’s reported contention that Ranveer Singh’s exit from Don 3 caused substantial financial losses after preparations for the movie were already underway.

Reports have placed the producers’ claim at around ₹45 crore. Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani had earlier approached IMPPA and reportedly submitted material connected with the project, including an agreement involving the actor and information concerning work already undertaken for the film.

Ranveer’s side, meanwhile, has now formally engaged with IMPPA through the submission made by his father. The existence of competing positions means the ₹45 crore figure should be treated as a reported claim rather than an established liability unless the dispute is resolved through agreement or an appropriate adjudicatory process.

IMPPA Expected to Examine Documents

IMPPA President Abhay Sinha has confirmed that Bhavnani met the association, while reports indicate its legal team will examine the relevant documents and evidence before deciding what action should follow.

This stage could prove significant because it gives Ranveer Singh’s side an opportunity to formally present its position rather than allowing the controversy to be defined solely by the producers’ allegations.

Whether the process ultimately results in a settlement, further negotiations or another form of dispute resolution remains unclear.

How the Don 3 Controversy Reached This Point

Ranveer Singh was announced in 2023 as the new face of the Don franchise, taking over a character associated in the previous two Farhan Akhtar-directed films with Shah Rukh Khan.

The casting immediately attracted major attention because Don is one of Hindi cinema’s most recognisable action franchises. Ranveer remained associated with the third instalment during its development before reports emerged that he would no longer continue with the project.

The disagreement subsequently expanded beyond a casting change into an industry dispute over contractual commitments and financial losses.

Earlier in the controversy, the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) issued a non-cooperation directive against Ranveer Singh. That directive was later withdrawn following discussions involving industry organisations, although the underlying financial disagreement remained unresolved.

Why the Don 3 Dispute Matters for Bollywood

The controversy has implications beyond the future of one movie.

Large Hindi films often require substantial expenditure months before principal photography begins. International schedules, sets, crew bookings, promotional material and other preparations can generate significant costs before cameras formally roll.

When a major actor leaves a production at an advanced stage, questions can therefore arise over contracts, compensation and responsibility for costs already incurred.

At the same time, actors and their representatives may have their own contractual or professional reasons for withdrawing from projects. Without complete details of the agreements and communications between the parties being publicly available, assigning responsibility would be premature.

That makes IMPPA’s examination of the competing documents particularly important.

What Happens to Don 3 Now?

The controversy also creates uncertainty around the creative future of Don 3.

Ranveer Singh had been positioned as the franchise’s next leading man, making his reported departure more significant than a routine casting change. Any replacement would potentially require the producers to reconsider schedules, marketing plans and possibly elements of the film itself.

For now, however, the immediate development is not a resolution but the beginning of another stage in the dispute.

IMPPA’s review could provide a route toward negotiation between the parties, but until the association completes its examination or the two sides reach an agreement, the ₹45 crore disagreement remains unresolved.

Balanced Analysis

The involvement of Ranveer Singh’s father may indicate that the actor’s camp is willing to engage more directly with the industry mechanism handling the disagreement. That could increase the possibility of a negotiated settlement.

However, approaching IMPPA should not itself be interpreted as an admission of responsibility. Similarly, Excel Entertainment’s reported ₹45 crore demand represents the producers’ claim and does not by itself establish that the actor legally owes that amount.

The broader significance of the controversy lies in how Bollywood manages increasingly expensive productions where the decisions of a single major star can affect hundreds of workers and substantial financial commitments.

A resolution acceptable to both sides could prevent the dispute from overshadowing Don 3 further. Until then, the future of the film—and the financial disagreement surrounding Ranveer Singh’s exit—will remain under close industry scrutiny.
