Kriti Sanon turns Daughter’s Day message toward women’s safety
Bollywood actor Kriti Sanon used Daughter’s Day 2026 to draw attention to the everyday calculations many women make while moving through public spaces, shifting the focus from celebration to personal safety.
In a multi-slide social-media post shared on September 27, Sanon referred to familiar precautions including sharing live locations, carrying pepper spray, choosing cabs instead of walking and remaining on a phone call until reaching home safely.
“We've normalised making fear her way of life,” Sanon wrote while asking readers to imagine receiving a call from a daughter who believes she is being followed by a group of men.

Sanon argued that the occasion would carry greater meaning when women can use public spaces without continually calculating the possibility of being assaulted.
She concluded her message by referring to a phrase familiar in many households — “I've reached” — and expressed hope for a future in which daughters no longer need to make such calls simply to reassure their families about their safety.
Her comments come amid renewed public discussion in India about sexual violence and women's safety. Bollywood Hungama linked her post specifically to recent outrage surrounding a reported rape case in a Delhi park.
Not the first time Sanon has addressed how women are treated
The Daughter’s Day message follows another public intervention by Sanon in August, when she responded to criticism surrounding a Raksha Bandhan advertisement for jewellery brand GIVA.
Some social-media users had criticised her clothing in the commercial and the depiction of her tying a rakhi to a pet dog. Responding on Instagram, Sanon defended the campaign’s interpretation of the festival and asked: “When will we stop telling women what to wear?” She argued that culture and tradition should not be measured solely through a woman’s clothing.

On the professional front, Sanon most recently appeared alongside Shahid Kapoor and Rashmika Mandanna in Cocktail 2, directed by Homi Adajania. The romantic comedy was released theatrically on June 19, 2026.
The film’s reception was mixed rather than uniformly negative: some viewers and critics criticised its screenplay and characterisation, while Sanon’s performance also received praise in sections of the audience response.
