India and Japan have deepened their Special Strategic and Global Partnership by signing multiple agreements aimed at boosting cooperation in artificial intelligence, defence, energy, and economic security. During the 16th India-Japan Annual Summit, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi emphasized the importance of resilient supply chains, advanced technologies, and stronger bilateral investments.
Among the key outcomes were three landmark documents focused on AI collaboration, energy resilience, and economic security. The leaders also announced the first-ever India-Japan defence co-development project, marking a significant milestone in bilateral defence ties. Modi highlighted that Japan's expertise in precision technology combined with India's software capabilities could accelerate global AI innovation.
Japan reaffirmed its commitment to increasing investments in India while both countries pledged closer cooperation on semiconductors, critical minerals, clean energy, and emerging technologies. As members of the Quad alongside the United States and Australia, India and Japan also reiterated their commitment to maintaining a free, open, and secure Indo-Pacific region.
