Salman Khan and Alvira Face Court Summons

Bollywood star Salman Khan and his sister Alvira Agnihotri have been summoned by a Chandigarh court in connection with an alleged cheating case linked to Being Human Jewellery.

The development brings renewed attention to a commercial dispute that has been ongoing for several years. The allegations originated from Chandigarh businessman Arun Gupta, who had raised concerns over his investment in a Being Human Jewellery outlet and the business support he claimed had been promised.

The latest court development does not by itself establish guilt. The allegations remain subject to the judicial process, where the claims and responses of the parties can be examined.

What Is the Being Human Jewellery Dispute?

The controversy dates back to a complaint involving a Being Human Jewellery franchise opened in Chandigarh.

Gupta had alleged that he invested around ₹2–3 crore in setting up an exclusive Being Human Jewellery store in 2018. According to his complaint, he expected business support, supply of products and promotional assistance associated with the brand.

He further alleged that commitments concerning promotion of the store were not fulfilled and that problems with stock and business operations affected the showroom.

The businessman also claimed that Salman Khan was expected to be involved in promoting the brand and that the actor was initially expected to attend the showroom's inauguration.

These assertions form part of the complainant's allegations and should not be treated as judicially proven findings.

Case Had Drawn Police Attention in 2021

The dispute is not new.

In July 2021, Chandigarh Police called Salman Khan, Alvira and six others for an inquiry after receiving Gupta's cheating complaint. Officials connected with the Being Human Foundation and Style Quotient Jewellery Pvt Ltd, the licensee associated with Being Human Jewellery, were also among those called at the time.

The police action was intended to verify the facts surrounding the complaint.

The matter has now returned to attention following the reported summons from a Chandigarh court.

Earlier Response Denied Salman and Alvira's Role

An important part of the case is the response previously issued by Style Quotient Jewellery Pvt Ltd.

The company had maintained that the commercial dispute was between Style Quotient Jewellery and franchisee Modern Jewels, associated with Arun Gupta.

It also stated that Salman Khan, Alvira and Being Human – The Salman Khan Foundation were not parties to the memorandum of understanding at the centre of the commercial arrangement.

According to that earlier clarification, Salman was the owner of the Being Human brand, while the jewellery business was being handled through the licensee.

This response represents the other side of the dispute and remains significant when assessing the allegations.

Why the Chandigarh Court Development Matters

The court summons gives the years-old controversy renewed legal significance.

Celebrity-linked businesses frequently depend heavily on brand recognition and public trust. When disagreements emerge between franchisees, licensees and brand owners, questions can arise over exactly which party was responsible for commercial promises, promotion, product supply and operational support.

That distinction appears particularly important in this dispute.

While the complainant has linked his investment and alleged losses to commitments surrounding the Being Human Jewellery venture, the earlier response from the jewellery licensee sought to separate Salman Khan, Alvira and the Being Human Foundation from the contractual dispute.

The judicial proceedings could therefore help determine how the responsibilities of the different parties should be viewed under the relevant agreements and evidence.

Balanced Analysis

The court summons should not be interpreted as a finding that Salman Khan or Alvira Agnihotri committed cheating.

At this stage, the case involves allegations made by a businessman and competing claims regarding responsibility for the commercial arrangement.

Gupta has alleged that promises connected with his investment and operation of the jewellery showroom were not fulfilled. On the other hand, Style Quotient Jewellery previously argued that Salman, Alvira and the Being Human Foundation were not parties to the relevant agreement and had no role in the dispute.

The legal importance of the latest development lies in the opportunity for these competing positions to be examined through the judicial process.

Until a court reaches findings on the evidence, allegations against any individual or organisation should be described as allegations rather than established wrongdoing.
