IndiGo Ventures Invests in Sarvam as AI Push Expands Across Indian Aviation

Indian aviation is taking another step toward deeper adoption of artificial intelligence, with IndiGo Ventures investing in Indian AI company Sarvam as part of the startup’s Series B funding round.

The investment brings together one of India’s largest airline ecosystems and a homegrown AI company focused on building artificial intelligence technology for Indian and enterprise use cases.

The individual amount invested by IndiGo Ventures has not been publicly disclosed.

The relationship is expected to go beyond a purely financial investment. IndiGo and Sarvam are working on potential AI applications aimed at improving customer experience, increasing employee productivity and supporting complex airline operational workflows.

Why the IndiGo-Sarvam Partnership Matters

Airlines operate in an environment where millions of customer interactions, time-sensitive decisions and complex operational processes need to be managed efficiently.

Artificial intelligence could play an increasingly important role in this ecosystem.

Rather than limiting AI to customer-facing chatbots or automated responses, airlines can potentially use the technology to assist employees, process large volumes of information, improve workflows and make operational systems more efficient.

Its technology strategy extends beyond building a single large language model. The company is working across different layers of the AI ecosystem, including training and inference infrastructure, frontier models and enterprise AI products.

Sarvam is developing technology capable of working with different forms of information, including text, speech, vision and documents.

The company is particularly focused on building AI systems that can be deployed in complex environments such as large enterprises and government institutions.

Sarvam was also selected under the IndiaAI Mission in April 2025 to develop a sovereign large language model for India.

The broader objective behind such initiatives is to create AI systems developed and operated in India that can better address Indian languages, local requirements and domestic use cases.

Sarvam’s $300 Million Series B Funding Round

IndiGo Ventures’ investment comes as part of Sarvam’s larger Series B fundraising effort.

In June 2026, Sarvam announced that it had raised $234 million in the first close of a proposed $300 million Series B round, giving the company a reported post-money valuation of approximately $1.5 billion.

HCLTech emerged as a major strategic investor in the round, committing $150 million. Bessemer Venture Partners also participated alongside existing investors Khosla Ventures and Peak XV Partners.

Sarvam has said the fresh capital will support development of its next generation of frontier AI models as well as research in areas including agentic AI, coding and cybersecurity.

The funding is also expected to support computing infrastructure and large-scale enterprise deployments.

How Could AI Benefit IndiGo?

For an airline, the potential applications of artificial intelligence can extend across multiple areas of the business.

AI systems could help manage customer queries more efficiently, provide employees with faster access to relevant information and extract useful insights from large volumes of operational data.

The bigger opportunity, however, lies in moving AI from experimental projects into practical airline workflows.

IndiGo’s large network could provide Sarvam with a significant environment in which to test enterprise AI applications at scale.

If such systems can perform reliably in a high-volume and time-sensitive aviation environment, similar technology could potentially be adapted for other large enterprises as well.

IndiGo Ventures’ Broader Investment Strategy

The Sarvam investment also fits into the wider strategy of IndiGo Ventures, which was established to identify startups and technologies that could shape aviation and the broader travel ecosystem.

IndiGo Ventures received approval from the Securities and Exchange Board of India in 2024 for an Alternative Investment Fund of approximately ₹600 crore.

Its investment scope extends beyond core aviation technology to sectors connected with the passenger journey, including travel, hospitality, lifestyle and transportation.

From that perspective, investing in Sarvam is more than an opportunity to gain financial exposure to a growing AI company.

It could also give IndiGo strategic access to technology that may eventually become useful across its core operations.

What the Investment Means for India’s AI Ecosystem

The deal highlights an important trend emerging within India’s artificial intelligence sector.

Domestic AI startups are increasingly attracting not only traditional venture capital firms but also large corporations that can act as strategic investors and technology partners.
