A Bengaluru-based professional has gone viral after sharing an unconventional approach to personal finance and daily life. In a widely circulated social media post, he explained that he deliberately avoids projecting an image of wealth, claiming that doing so helps him negotiate better prices and reduces unnecessary expenses. The post quickly attracted attention, with thousands of users debating whether appearance can influence the cost of goods and services.

According to the post, the professional sold his iPhone in favor of a different smartphone brand, replaced his MacBook with another laptop, and continues to drive a hatchback that is around ten years old. He noted that these choices were not driven by financial limitations but by a belief that displaying expensive possessions often changes how people interact with customers.

He argued that people perceived as wealthy may sometimes face higher prices, stronger sales pressure, or greater expectations, referring to this as a "looks rich" effect rather than a reflection of actual purchasing power. The individual also mentioned that his newer devices actually cost more than the products they replaced, emphasizing that his goal was practicality and privacy rather than appearing less successful.

The viral post resonated with many users who agreed that outward appearance can influence negotiations in marketplaces, repair shops, and other everyday transactions. Some commenters shared personal experiences of receiving different quotations depending on the vehicle they drove or the gadgets they carried. Others appreciated the idea of focusing on functionality instead of status symbols.

Not everyone shared the same opinion, however. Several users argued that confidence, communication skills, and financial awareness matter more than appearance when negotiating prices. Others suggested that while perceptions can play a role in certain situations, making purchasing decisions solely to appear less affluent may not be practical for everyone.

The discussion has since expanded into a broader conversation about consumer psychology, financial habits, and the value people place on material possessions. Many users highlighted the importance of spending based on personal needs rather than social expectations, while others viewed the story as a reminder that wealth and lifestyle are not always reflected by visible possessions.

Although the claims in the viral post reflect one individual's personal perspective, the story has prompted wider conversations about negotiation strategies, consumer behavior, and how appearances can shape everyday interactions. The varied responses demonstrate how topics related to money, lifestyle, and perception continue to generate significant engagement on social media.
