A political controversy has intensified in Madhya Pradesh after reports alleged that land holdings linked to Chief Minister Mohan Yadav's family and associated real estate firms expanded significantly between 2021 and 2025, particularly in areas that later benefited from government infrastructure projects. An investigation claimed that the family's land holdings increased substantially during this period, prompting allegations from opposition parties of a possible conflict of interest.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has strongly defended the Chief Minister, dismissing the allegations as politically motivated and baseless. Party leaders have argued that Mohan Yadav's personal land holdings have not increased since he assumed office as Chief Minister in December 2023, rejecting claims of any wrongdoing.
However, critics contend that questions remain regarding the reported expansion of land owned by companies linked to the Yadav family since 2021. The Congress has demanded an independent investigation, alleging that the purchases coincided with planned infrastructure development in parts of Ujjain. BJP leaders have denied any misuse of official position and maintain that all transactions were lawful and transparent.
The controversy has become a major political flashpoint in Madhya Pradesh, with both the ruling BJP and the opposition Congress exchanging allegations while calls for a detailed inquiry continue.
