Teen’s FIR details alleged assault inside Aastha Kunj Park
New details have emerged from the First Information Report in the alleged gang rape of a 17-year-old girl inside Aastha Kunj Park in Delhi’s Kalkaji area, with the teenager telling police that the three accused pretended to be policemen before separating her from her friend and sexually assaulting her.
According to the FIR accessed by Hindustan Times, the teenager alleged that the men used threats, a firearm and knives to intimidate her during the incident on Monday evening. The three men have since been arrested, while Delhi Police are gathering forensic and witness evidence as part of the investigation.
The allegations described in the FIR have not yet been established by a court, and the accused should be treated as accused pending the legal process.
Birthday visit to Kalkaji Mandir preceded incident
According to the teenager’s account in the FIR, she had travelled from Faridabad with a 17-year-old male friend to visit Kalkaji Mandir on her birthday.
She told police that she had kept her elder sister informed about the visit. After offering prayers, the two left the temple at around 7 pm and later entered Aastha Kunj Park through Gate No. 7, intending to spend some time there before heading towards the nearby ISKCON Temple.
The two were sitting on a bench and eating chips when three men approached them, according to the FIR.
Accused allegedly posed as police officers
The teenager alleged that the men presented themselves as policemen and questioned why she and her friend were inside the park.
According to her statement, they grabbed her friend and began slapping him. The men also allegedly took away both teenagers’ mobile phones.
Police have said the accused allegedly used police-style language and intimidation to convince the teenagers that they were dealing with genuine law-enforcement personnel. The Indian Express reported that investigators said terms such as “Janab” were among the language used by the accused while posing as officers.
One of the men then allegedly took the girl’s friend away while the others directed her towards a more secluded area.
FIR says firearm was displayed before alleged assault
The girl told police she was frightened and initially resisted going towards the bushes, asking the men to question her where she was and offering to let them speak to her mother.
According to the FIR, one of the accused, identified by investigators as Asif, then displayed a firearm. The teenager described it as a black-coloured weapon, according to separate PTI reporting.
The men allegedly took her to a darker, secluded part of the park.
The teenager alleged that she was then sexually assaulted by the three men at different locations while knives were held against her neck. Hindustan Times reported her telling investigators that she was frightened and crying during the alleged assault.
Because the survivor is a minor, identifying information has been omitted from this report.
Accused allegedly threatened to kill the teenagers
According to the teenager’s statement, after the alleged assaults the men returned the phones and ordered her and her friend to leave quickly.
She alleged that they threatened to kill them if they told anyone what had happened.
After leaving the park, the teenager told her friend about the alleged assault. Her friend then contacted police.
Police received the PCR call at approximately 8:45 pm, and officers subsequently reached the teenagers near Gate No. 7 of Aastha Kunj Park.
Three accused arrested
Delhi Police have arrested three men identified in reporting as Asif, Hemant and Mukesh.
Asif was arrested after an encounter with police in the Amar Colony area. Police alleged that when officers attempted to intercept him, he fired three rounds. Police returned fire, injuring him in the right leg. The other two accused were also arrested on Tuesday.
The Indian Express reported that police subsequently added conspiracy-related provisions to the FIR after allegedly recovering a gun, a knife and condoms from Asif. Investigators are examining whether the alleged crime had been planned in advance; that remains an investigative theory rather than an established finding.
Survivor helped investigators locate alleged crime scenes
The teenager later accompanied investigators and identified locations inside the park where she said the assaults had taken place.
A forensic team from Rohini and the district mobile crime team examined those locations and collected samples for scientific analysis. Police said biological evidence, including a condom, was recovered and that DNA analysis could help investigators determine whether the material can be linked to the accused.
Her description of the accused—their appearance, clothing and the names or nicknames they used for one another—also helped investigators identify the suspects, police said.
Police record statements of 12 witnesses
The investigation has since expanded beyond the survivor’s statement and forensic evidence.
As of September 25, Delhi Police had recorded statements from 12 witnesses, including park security guards and workers at a nearby LPG godown, according to The Indian Express.
Police said some witnesses had allegedly seen Asif and Hemant harassing people in the park on previous occasions and had also seen the two there on the day of the alleged assault. Those accounts are part of the ongoing investigation and have not yet been tested in court.
Investigators are also examining whether any of the accused had previously used a similar method to intimidate or target other people in the area.
Case registered under POCSO provisions
Police have said a case was registered under relevant provisions of law, including the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, because the survivor is under 18.
The investigation now involves multiple forms of evidence: the survivor’s statement, witness accounts, CCTV footage, material collected from the park and items allegedly recovered from the accused.
Those elements will have to be examined through the investigation and subsequent judicial process. An FIR records allegations and initiates a criminal investigation; it does not by itself establish the guilt of an accused person.
Case renews focus on safety at Aastha Kunj Park
The alleged assault has also brought scrutiny to security conditions inside Aastha Kunj Park.
The Indian Express reported that the incident has raised concerns about security and infrastructure at the DDA park, while investigators have spoken to guards and people working in the surrounding area as part of reconstructing events.
The case has also prompted protests. Students demonstrated on Wednesday following reports of the alleged gang rape, as concerns over women's safety in public spaces returned to the forefront in Delhi.
For investigators, however, the immediate task remains evidentiary: establishing the sequence of events, scientifically testing the material recovered from the park and presenting the evidence through the criminal-justice process.
