“GST COLLECTIONS HIT ₹1.94 TRILLION 📈 INDIA RECORDS 3.2% GROWTH IN MAY”

India's GST revenue rises to ₹1.94 lakh crore in May, reflecting steady economic activity and strong tax collections. India's gross Goods and Services Tax (GST) collections increased by 3.2% year-on-year to ₹1.94 lakh crore (₹1.94 trillion) in May 2026, according to official government data released on Sunday. The figures indicate continued economic activity and stable tax revenue growth across the country.

While GST collections remained strong, the May figure was lower than April's all-time record collection of ₹2.42 lakh crore, reflecting a moderation after the exceptionally high revenue recorded at the beginning of the financial year.

Officials said the growth was supported by higher collections from goods and services transactions, along with stronger tax revenue from imports. Import-related GST collections reportedly recorded significant growth, helping maintain overall revenue momentum.

According to the data, net GST collections after refunds also rose by around 3.3%, reaching approximately ₹1.67 lakh crore, showing steady tax compliance and economic resilience despite global uncertainties.

Economists believe the latest GST figures highlight the continued strength of domestic consumption and business activity, even as growth has moderated compared to previous months. The collections remain among the highest monthly GST revenues recorded since the tax regime was introduced in 2017.
