Brentford delivered a memorable night in west London as three second-half goals powered Keith Andrews' side to a 3-0 Premier League victory over Chelsea at the Gtech Community Stadium on Friday, September 18.
After a goalless opening 45 minutes, Jaidon Anthony broke the deadlock in the 61st minute before Igor Thiago doubled Brentford's advantage in the closing stages. Substitute Fabio Carvalho completed the result in stoppage time.
The victory was particularly significant for Brentford: Reuters reported it was their first home win over Chelsea since 1938. It also maintained the Bees' unbeaten start to the Premier League season and moved them up to third ahead of the rest of the weekend's fixtures. Chelsea, meanwhile, were left seventh after extending their league run without a victory to three games.
Chelsea Unable to Turn Possession Into Goals
Chelsea had opportunities to establish control during the opening half but struggled to translate possession into meaningful attacking pressure.
Pedro Neto produced one of their clearest early chances in the ninth minute, forcing Brentford goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher into a save. Cole Palmer also showed flashes of attacking quality, but the visitors failed to consistently trouble Brentford's defence.

According to Reuters, Anthony's opener extended Chelsea's run without a Premier League clean sheet to 21 matches.
Chelsea attempted to find an equaliser, but committing more players forward eventually provided Brentford with opportunities to counterattack.
Igor Thiago Makes It 2-0
The hosts capitalised in the 83rd minute.
Kevin Schade broke through on goal and forced Chelsea goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez into a save. The ball, however, fell into the path of Igor Thiago, who converted the rebound to double Brentford's advantage.
Thiago's goal also ended a seven-game scoring drought, according to Sky Sports.
At 2-0 with little time remaining, Chelsea's hopes of recovering from the derby were effectively over.
Fabio Carvalho Completes Brentford's 3-0 Victory
Brentford were not finished.
Deep into stoppage time, Schade provided another decisive contribution, sending the ball across goal for substitute Fabio Carvalho to finish at the far post in the 94th minute.
It was a particularly significant moment for Carvalho. Sky Sports reported that it was his first Premier League goal since returning from an injury absence of almost a year.
The final whistle confirmed an emphatic 3-0 victory for the home side.

Brentford Make Their Best Start to a Premier League Season
Beyond the derby result, Brentford's opening five matches underline the strength of their start to the 2026-27 campaign.
The Bees remained unbeaten through their first five Premier League fixtures, recording two wins and three draws. That represented the first time Brentford had gone unbeaten through their opening five matches of a top-flight season.
The victory temporarily moved Andrews' side into third place with nine points, ahead of the remaining fixtures in the round.
Their derby record has also improved: Brentford have won three of their last four Premier League matches against London opposition, drawing the other.
Chelsea's Defensive Problems Continue
For Chelsea, the result added to a difficult opening phase of the season under Alonso.
The Blues have now conceded 12 goals in their first five Premier League matches, the highest total in the division at this stage, according to Sky Sports.
Their recent league sequence is equally concerning. Chelsea have gone three Premier League games without winning, following defeat by Arsenal and a draw with Hull City before the loss at Brentford.
Friday's match was also the first Premier League game this season in which Chelsea failed to score, with Brentford restricting them to two shots on target from 12 attempts. Brentford recorded six shots on target from 13 attempts.
Those numbers are notable because Chelsea actually had more possession — 59.4% — but Brentford generated substantially greater expected goals, 2.65 xG compared with Chelsea's 0.85.
The contrast illustrates the central story of the match: Chelsea saw plenty of the ball, but Brentford were considerably more effective when opportunities appeared.
Xabi Alonso Calls for Greater Consistency
Alonso acknowledged after the match that Chelsea had failed to maintain their performance throughout the contest.
Reuters reported that the Chelsea head coach pointed to the team's inability to sustain its level over the full 90 minutes, with the second-half deterioration proving decisive.
The international break now gives Alonso time to address the problems exposed at the Gtech Community Stadium.
