Reports on August 27 indicate that the two sides have been unable to reach an agreement over the commercial aspects of the proposed match, making the fixture increasingly unlikely.
Commercial Terms Reportedly Behind the Problem
The difficulty does not appear to be primarily related to footballing considerations.
According to reports citing sources familiar with the negotiations, the proposed friendly has run into trouble because the parties could not reach agreement on commercial terms. One report described the chances of the match proceeding as extremely low.
That distinction matters.

The latest reports underline why proposed international fixtures should be treated as provisional until the relevant federations formally confirm all arrangements.
Why Cape Verde Would Have Been a Valuable Opponent for India
From a sporting perspective, Cape Verde represented an attractive opponent.
The African nation emerged as one of the notable stories of the 2026 FIFA World Cup during its tournament debut. Cape Verde reached the round of 32 after going unbeaten in the group stage, including a goalless draw against eventual champions Spain and a 2-2 result against Uruguay. Their run eventually ended with a 3-2 extra-time defeat against Argentina.
